With a newly renovated interior, including two bars, dance cages and flat screens for music videos, Catch 22 has become the talk of the town.
"I decided to open Catch 22 to promote diversity," said owner Kevin Howard. "I felt like all the clubs in Greenville had a slight variation of the same thing."
The club opened at the end of February with a staff of about 15. Between the interior design, the bars, drink specials, dance cages -- and even purse hangers in the bathrooms -- pleasing women was the ultimate goal for this club.
"We feel that if you make the women happy, everyone else will be fine," Howard said.
Catch 22 has numerous specials, including special shots like the "vanilla ice shot" and the "ninja turtles shot," and many nights with free admission. Catch 22 also has two full service bars including a VIP bar and hopes by next fall to have a VIP room.
"Our best night is Friday night -- we expect between 250 to 350 people. Wednesday night is great, too. It is '90s night and it is ridiculous. I would say it was just about as busy as Friday night," Howard said.
Every Wednesday, Catch 22 has a wide variety of '90s music hand selected by DJ Dog with music videos to go along with them. '90s night has grown to be extremely popular with ECU students.
"I love '90s night because it brings back memories from elementary and middle school. And to see the old music videos that used to play on MTV when I was younger is really awesome," said ECU junior Joel Yatsko.
Live bands perform at Catch 22 almost every Saturday night. Bands such as The Embers, a Dave Matthews tribute band and Crowded Streets, have performed at Catch 22. HipSlack, Blount Harvey a Rage Against Machine tribute band and Guerrilla Radio are expected to play in the near future.
"I love how they always have a lot of live bands. I think it's fun to hang out and dance to live music every once in a while, and the bands Catch 22 have hosted have really been awesome," said ECU freshman Meghan MacGhee.
Catch 22 will be having a graduation party Saturday, May 9 and has invited all seniors to come out and celebrate. Guerrilla Radio will also be performing the Thursday before graduation.
Catch 22 is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
