Fletcher Recital Hall was filled with the sounds of music last Friday when the ECU Vocal Studies faculty and ECU Chambers Singers performed a concert and hosted a program for high school students and teachers.
The concert on Friday began at 8 p.m. in Fletcher Recital Hall.
ECU graduate and Chamber Singer Stephen Brand enjoyed the concert.
"I thought it was a great performance," said Brand. "I always enjoy being a part of the Chamber Singers and the music that we produce."
The Chambers Music Choir is the top choir in the music department and consists of 44 singers, 10 of which had participated in this program and concert in high school in the past.
This program has been done for the last four years.
The program asks music educators from local high schools to recommend their top high school singers, and they are then invited to participate and take part in educational programs here at ECU for the weekend.
Professor and Director of Choral Activities, Daniel Bara, strongly supports the program.
"It is a way for us to offer educational aspects to high school students," said Bara. "It helps them consider what it is like to be music major here at ECU."
ECU Chamber Singers, ECU Vocal Studies faculty and guest singers performed different pieces and songs.
"I thought the performance went very well," Bara said. "The music selection was challenging and I was really proud of how our guest singers could live up to college standards."
The program focused on pursuing a degree as a singer and how to audition at a university.
"We also had one of our music theory professors come and talk," Bara said. "He focused on how to prepare music reading skills, music theory and music history skills."
