Since the beginning of January, the SAB has been holding committees to vote on a performance act to bring to ECU for the spring semester.
"We wanted to have more hip-hop this semester, and between the committee and The Cool Kids availability, the group was perfect for us," said SAB president Erin Edwards.
As students waited patiently for the pair to take stage, the ECU Nubiance Dance Team performed for the crowd. The group of almost 20 filled the stage with a never-before-seen hip-hop dance.
"Nubiance was absolutely fantastic, props to them for getting out there tonight and showing ECU what they got," said sophomore Laquitia Lewis, who attended the show.
With the crowd still excited from Nubiance's performance, The Cool Kids took the stage and immediately invited the audience to collect down below, closer to the stage.
"The Cool Kids hit the stage with a bang, everyone in the building could feel their presence," said sophomore Jonathan Wright, another attendee. "I can honestly say they are one of the best performers I've seen."
The Cool Kids performed about 10 old and new songs including "The Bake Sale," "Pennies" and "Black Mags" before exiting the stage around 9:30 p.m. The energetic crowd continued to roar in the open auditorium and outside in the streets even after the concert was over.
"Honestly, my friends made me come with them tonight to see the concert, but by the end of the show, I was the one not ready to leave. They were great," said sophomore Dominique Williams.
The group consists of Evan "Chuck Inglish" Ingersoll and Antoine "Mikey Rocks" Reed who was the theme behind their prominent single, "Mikey Rocks." The two performers have been a group since 1995 but until recently used the well-known networking Web site, MySpace, to promote their music. Since the group has been on many tours and events across the United States and Canada, they have started their own production company, C.A.K.E. Recordings.

The SAB's next event will be March 19 in Wright Auditorium as a part of "ECU goes green" by band, Recycled Percussions, a group of four guys who use trash cans and other recycled materials to perform custom music.
