On Monday March 2 at 6 p.m. the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority is hosting it's monthly "Think Pink" Book Club meeting. The purpose of the book club is to "provide intellectual stimulation through reading and discussion."

The "Think Pink" Book Club is hosted by the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority every month during the spring semester. Attendance usually ranges from 50 to 70 students.

According to Alpha Kappa Alpha member Tenika Dunston, the book club is an informal atmosphere for students who share a common interest. The meeting includes a "meet and greet" session as well as light refreshments.

"It's good to have somewhere you can go and read a book and you can talk about it with people and see what you like," she said. "We have little icebreakers where everyone can warm up and get to know each other so it can be a comfortable atmosphere."

The book club is open to all members of the student community as well as the local community, and attracts many different types of students, both male and female.

"We have students from different backgrounds that come. It's not just Greeks, it's not just a certain race, it's open to anyone. Anyone who has a passion for reading good books," Dunston said.

Each month the group meets and discusses a book that has been chosen by members during the previous month's meeting.

This month the book club will be discussing the novel, "Every Goodbye Ain't Gone," by Brey, a local author and member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She is the author of two novels, and working on a third that is scheduled for release in August 2009. She is also working on a line of children's books. The proceeds from these books will sponsor a Christian-based non-profit program for young adults and kids

Brey will be in attendance at the meeting and will be bringing along some of her work.

This month's "Think Pink" Book Club meeting will be held in Mendenhall Student Center room 221. More information can be found through the club's Facebook group or by contacting Tenika Dunston at 919-215-6862.
