"Bat Boy" was written by Keythe Farley and Brian Flemming. They got the idea from an article in a tabloid, which was about a half boy/half bat that was supposedly discovered living in a cave.
In this musical, the sheriff of a town in West Virginia finds a "batboy" living in a cave and decides to take him to the town veterinarian. The vet then decides to make this batboy a part of his own family. In the progression of this musical, the batboy tries to fit in, falls in love and a shocking secret is revealed about him.
"Bat Boy: The Musical" will be performed nightly at 8 p.m. It will also be performed at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 15.
This particular production will have a cast and crew of some of ECU's very own theatre and music majors.
Freshman Bobby Cassell is excited about the production.
"It's gory, with lots of blood and cool lighting," said Cassell, who is a part of the running crew.
According to Cassell, the students have been working and practicing for the past three weeks.
"There's not too many characters, so they all have to be the best," Cassell said.
Freshman Lizz Allred, is also excited about "Bat Boy: The Musical." Allred, who knew that she wanted to work in the theatre since she was nine, helped with the scenery. She also loves how this musical challenges the actors and crew.
"It shows the depth and range of the actors and production crew," said Allred.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at McGinnis Theatre or the Central Ticket Office. Both are located on ECU's campus. Tickets can also be purchased online at ECUARTS.com. The prices range from $12 to $17.50 in advance, and all tickets will be $17.50 at the door.
