"Begin promptly on time" is the motto of a new club at ECU.
Toastmasters International is an organization dedicated to helping its members in public speaking and in fulfilling the role of a toastmaster.
Interest for starting the club begin last summer by ECU professor Pam Hopkins.
Hopkins, a member of the Greenville chapter of Toastmasters International, thought this would be a great organization to get students involved in on the university's campus.
"I believe public speaking is one of the most important things you can learn in life. We all have room to improve and Toastmaster can help," said Hopkins.
As faculty adviser of the club, Hopkins hopes that 20 members will commit to being part of the club. Toastmasters International offers leadership and public speaking skills to its members.
Each meeting consists of three speeches made by members themselves who are then evaluated by the other members in the club and typically begin with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Then, the Toastmaster of the Day introduces and begins the meeting.
Toastmasters of the Day are elected at the end of all meetings and all members are eligible to receive the honor.
The grammarian, who keeps counts of specific words and grammar errors made during meetings, introduces Word of the Day. Word of the Day helps all members expand their vocabulary.
Danielle Poston, a media production major, did her second speech in last Thursday's meeting about her favorite hobby and why she majored in media production.
"I love the environment. You get great feedback from everyone after every speech," said Poston.
Once members' speeches are finished, the next thing on the agenda is table topics.
Valentine's Day was the topic this past week.
Questions like "What is the definition of true love?" and "What is your best memory from past Valentine's days?" were asked to members about the romantic holiday.
Meetings are held every Thursday from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in Joyner East room 202.
