Get on board, fellow Pirates!

It's that time again. The time where everyone is re-evaluating themselves and making those ever-dreaded New Year's resolutions.
The resolutions that most of us never keep. The resolutions that usually aren't going to have a lasting effect on our future.
Losing weight and exercising are good, but is that really going to help you get that job in the future?
I doubt it. Well, maybe if you're Michael Phelps.
Unfortunatley, most of us are not Michael Phelps and most of us don't stick to the promises we make on Jan. 1.
Not to fear, I have a resolution that is not only easy to keep, but will definitely help you in the future-no matter what job field you're going in to.
And that is a spot working for your campus newspaper. Yes, The East Carolinian.
I have noticed a disturbing trend among ECU students in my almost-four years of attendance: Most students are apathetic. Really apathetic. They aren't involved, and feel that if it doesn't make you a ton of money now, then it's not worth it.
Well, I've got news for you: If you don't have any experience working in your field or working on a job that will help you in your future field, then YOU PROBABLY WON'T GET A JOB WHEN YOU GRADUATE.
It's true. Unless you want to be a waitress or a tanning bed assistant your whole life, then you need experience working on something that will help you with leadership and time-management skills, working with deadlines, developing relationships and working with people. You will get all that and more working at The East Carolinian.
Plus, you get paid.
We are looking for motivated students (ready to keep a New Year's resolution) that can work as editors, writers, layout designers, photographers and copy editors. We need YOU, students of ECU, to participate in something that will advance your future.
Like I said, it won't be a hard resolution to keep.
