The student body voted and the results are in.

As part of the 2008 ECU Homecoming festivities, Grammy-award winner Lupe Fiasco will perform live Thursday, Nov. 6 at Minges Coliseum

Part of a voting process initiated by the student activities board earlier this semester, Lupe Fiasco was chosen to perform after about 3,800 students voted on OneStop.

Referred to as GQ's 2006 "Breakout Man of the Year," Lupe Fiasco broke out onto the music scene with a featured verse in Kanye West's "Touch the Sky" and later came out with his first single "Kick-Push."

Fiasco also won a Grammy award for Best Urban/Alternative Performance for his duet with singer Jill Scott.

"Out of the list of performers that we selected, based on price and availability, students thought Lupe is a great performer and an up and coming artist," said Matthew McCarthy, the special events chair of the student activities board. "The entire university is trying to make this homecoming the biggest and best that we've ever had, and by involving this performance, we hope it will definitely be a blowout."

Marcus Eley, a junior who participated in the voting process, will be attending the concert.

"I like Lupe Fiasco because he speaks intelligence in his lyrics, he possesses versatility and lyrical originality," said Eley.

Senior Aaron Chapman is also excited about the concert.

"I think a concert like this is what ECU needs to help diversify their homecoming events and reach out to all students," said Chapman.

Tickets are on sale now in the central ticket office in Mendenhall Student Center, from Mon. - Fri., 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. During the week of the concert, Nov. 4 - Nov. 6, tickets will also be for sale at the Minges Athletic Ticket Office.

Student tickets are $10 for ECU students with a valid ECU OneCard and $25 for all non-students.

Only students will have access to bottom floor seating.
