East Carolina freshman Seth Maness continued to pick up post-season honors Thursday as he was named third-team All-American by the Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball publication.

Maness, a right-hander, was named C-USA Freshman of the Year after tying for the league lead in wins. He is 9-1 with a 2.87 ERA and 77 strikeouts with just 18 walks in 91 innings pitched. Maness is just the second freshmen in ECU history to win nine games. He won six consecutive starts from March 1 through April 5 and won his first eight decisions at ECU before falling to Tulane on May 9.

Maness had two games in which he did not allow a run and five outings in which he surrendered one or no walks.

The Pinehurst, NC native is the 18th Pirate in school history to garner All-America honors and the first since Jake Smith was named second-team by Collegiate Baseball and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) in 2006.

Maness and the Pirates (40-19) started their preparation of the 2008 Conway Regional Thursday morning going through a highly intense one hour and 15 minute practice at Watson Stadium/Vrooman Field in Conway, SC.

Earlier in the morning Head Coach Billy Godwin along with Corey Kemp, Harrison Eldridge and Drew Schieber participated in a kickoff press conference before their team workout in front of several local and national media members.
