Intramural flag football holds championships
Da Squad wins Men's Gold title

Pain and Torture kept it close in the Co-Rec game championship against Ridonkulous. A hail mary thrown by Chris Riddle to Susan Doggett with no time remaining before halftime took all the life out of Pain and Torture. The play, which rivaled that of Doug Flutie against Miami in the early 1980s, proved to be the difference. Ridonkulous won 42-7.
After the game, captain of Ridonkulous, Susan Doggett admitted to being nervous in the first half.
"It was a good game," said Doggett. "We were a little worried at first but our offense stepped up in the second half. It was fun to win."
In the Sorority championship, Megan Brown led Alpha Delta Pi. She intercepted two passes. She ran back for a touchdown on Alpha Phi's first drive of the game. The interception proved to be in difference in Alpha Delta Pi's win 12-0.
Sports Medicine dominated Grandma's boys in the Men's Purple league championship game using a passing attack and great defense. On the first play of the second half, David Small took an interception back for a touchdown in what was the back breaker for Grandma's boys. Sports Medicine never looked back and won 20-0.
Captain of Sports Medicine, Bruce Henry, stressed good defense after the game.
"We played pretty good," said Henry. "Our defense has been pretty good the whole season. They were a good team but I felt our defense came through in the end. Defense wins games."
The Fraternity Purple championship displayed a sloppy, but rather exciting game. Chi Phi wasted many opportunities in the red zone in the first half, and went into half time down 7-0. After scoring early in the second half, Chi Phi failed on the extra point attempt, but closed the gap to 7-6. Robert Allen provided the go ahead score middle way through the second half for Chi Phi, by taking an interception back for a touchdown. The final score was 12-7.
Kappa Sigma drove down to the 1-yard line with only six seconds remaining. The game appeared to be over on the next play but roughing the passer was called and an un-timed down was awarded to Kappa Sigma.
Da Squad downed Harry Caray 33-6 in the Men's Gold league. Chi Phi took the Fraternity Gold title downing Sigma Phi Epsilon 14-12.
To be eligible for the playoffs, teams had to win at least one regular season game. They were six leagues for teams to compete in. Those were the Co-Rec, Fraternity Gold, Fraternity Purple, Men's Gold, Men's Purple and Sorority leagues.
"We had a great season," said Intramural staff member Joanna Ezzell. "We had fewer ejections and good weather. The games were real competitive. We had a new playoff system that split the teams up in the playoffs according to how they did in the regular season. This made the games more competitive."
