Pirates make national tournament for first time

ECU rugby ready for the national stage

The rugby team will travel to Albuquerque, NM this weekend to compete in the Division II national tournament for the first time in school history, and try to earn a spot in the national championship game on May 2. They qualified for the tournament by beating the University of South Florida and Wake Forest to capture the South Regional tournament two weeks ago.

  • ECU wins extra-inning battle with The Citadel

    ECU's pitcher-by-committee worked well enough for a 4-3, extra-inning win over The Citadel Wednesday night at Clark-LeClair Stadium. The Pirates' head coach Billy Godwin used four pitchers, who gave up a total of two earned runs, in the midweek victory. "We have to win every game, and that's just the way I approach it," Godwin said.

  • Lady Pirate tennis heading to C-USA Tournament

    The ECU women's tennis team will travel to Houston this weekend for the annual Conference USA Tournament. The Lady Pirates will enter the tournament as the No.8 seed carrying an overall record of 16-5 and a 1-0 mark in the conference. The Pirates, whose season finale against South Carolina State was cancelled this past weekend due to rain, are riding a three match win streak, all of them shutouts.

  • Tiger undergoes knee surgery following Masters loss

    Tiger Woods had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Tuesday to repair cartilage damage, his second operation in five years on the same knee. He is expected to miss at least a month while he recovers. The surgery, announced on his Web site, came two days after Woods finished three shots behind Trevor Immelman in the Masters.

  • Tennis players receive academic honors

    Pirates take up two of the five slots

    Three seniors, a junior and two sophomores make up the 2008 Conference USA All-Academic Women's Tennis team. All six members have at least a 3.60 GPA for the second year in a row. ECU had two members on the team, while Rice, SMU, Tulsa and UCF each placed one representative on the squad.
